About the Author
The
author and his wife have lived on a small island in the Pacific
Northwest for over twenty years. They have traveled extensively, their
last 'sojourn' being a three month winter trip through Italy, France,
Spain and Portugal.
"Traveling to us is the small
things, the attempted friendly conversation on the bus, the laughter at
trying to order a meal in a restaurant where you don?t speak the
language and they don't speak yours. The small things are also what
make a story come alive, drawing the reader in deep. It is my hope that
I have accomplished this with Sunset Run, and my many characters."
Writing doesn't come easy to me. I once read somewhere that 'writing a
novel is like pushing a peanut across a very dirty floor with your
nose.' (anybody can do it, but do you really want to?). I would like to
add the word blindfolded to the end of that quotation. As a writer I
often wonder in the middle of it all, where my story is going? Can I
pull all of the pieces together? Sometimes I find that it won't go the
direction that I intended, it gathers a momentum of its own and I just
hang on. That is the excitement I face as a writer. Where does this all
go? How does it get there? Can it get there? And as a matter of fact
just where is there?
My background in sailing comes from over 30 years of loving sailboats.
Our last boat brought us from the Pacific Northwest down to Mexico for
what we thought was going to be one season, but "Manyana land" grabbed
hold of us and we spent the next four winters cruising the west coast
of Mexico, before we finally headed south through the Panama Canal and
up to Florida, where we did a re-fit and spent a season sailing the
Bahamas. My wife and I have sailed over 12,000 miles together.
I hope you enjoy reading Sunset Run. The story is from my heart as well
as my mind. It's the best that I can do. I'm working on the next novel,
another Captain Mondo story. He's just too great of a guy to limit to
one book.
P.S. I am not Captain Mondo, but I do know who he is.
